I first became interested in Dee Jaying at a very young age. In the late 70's early 80's, I used to hang out in the parks, in the summer and sit there for hours just watching how the Dee jays were spinning their records. Blending always amazed me, back when I had no knowledge on how it was done. I remember the music that caught me back then. I call the real classics. "Must be the music, Planet Rock, Numbers, I'll do anything for you, So fine, to name a few.
One thing I made a promise was not to forget who started it all. I have to give credit where credit is due. A friend who got me started, Dennis Rodriguez. He was Dee jaying the prom at B.M.C.C. (Borough Manhattan Community College) at the time of our introduction. Those who are familiar with the school should know that this was before the college relocated to Chambers Street. He to me is a true pioneer DJ. Mixing New Wave and Dance and rippin' up the party. We lived in the same block at the time (171st on Walton Ave. Bronx, NY) and he would show me the fundamentals of mixing. I know a lot of Deejays who would die if anyone touched their system, if they didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. He didn't. He would let me spin when he had places to go. That was real cool and the foundation that started it all.
Anyway, time has a drift and we lost contact. It has been 21 years since. If you are reading or if anyone knows whom I am talking about, please tell him I said, "Thank you and I owe you one".
You would be surprise how many jams were done in one year alone. Hooky parties, Birthday parties, bachelor parties, etc. A person could sneeze and we would probably throw "He's getting sick extravaganza". We pretty much didn't need an occasion to throw a slamma jamma. My DJ name came from a very close friend of mine back then. Her name is Jackie Guzman. I can recall her asking for a mix tape and I would tell her: I'll have one for you real soon". She would reply "We should call you soon, because that is all I hear". The GE Light glew over my head and I figured If I abbreviate the letters to fit today's genre, it would be unique, to say the least. So Bright Eyes, I too thank you for the name, which I kept for 17 years.
In the 90's I slowed down dramatically, As far as Throw parties were concern. Wear and tear were starting to takes its toll on my system. It was becoming to expensive to replace or fix what has been damage in route or from an event. You fellow DeeJays know what I mean. It was like losin' your first love. ...To see a piece of your equipment either inoperative or even scratched for that matter. So I decided on making mixed tapes and putting my Gem sounds out my second floor fire escape. Those were the days.
Right now I'm more involved in creating Remixes and Demos. In this computer age and day, keeps it well entertaining. I still collect music, but mostly CD(s). I have around 38 creates of records in storage which I am unable to fit in my apartment. I have records dating back to the early 50's through the 90's. The latter 90's through 2000 are either on CD(s) waveform and Mpeg 3 (MP3). If I had to choose which preference fit me I would have say "vinyl". To me there is no comparison what so ever. Will I get back into Dee Jaying? Hell Yeah! I was never really gone, in my eyes. They say it's like riding a bike. Once you learn, you can never forget. Do you agree?
I listen to all kind of music. You can throw in a tape of a different genre and I will listen with an open mind. I may even ask you for a copy. Any type of music should not be listen too in a bias manner. It all comes from the soul. If I had to choose which is my favorite type of music, I would have to say that I love dance Music. Even through I don't go to clubs anymore, I try to stay on top on what's hot. You have so many Divas out there now just rippin' up the scene today. Even Donna Summer, who I give much love too, came back hard with a hot dance track (Power of One, Love is a healer) that 'til this day gives me Goosebumps.
Let me end this now. I hope you have enjoyed my brief bio. And website. I will try to keep this site updated with new Demos and Remixes for your listening pleasure.
